Beautiful cottage with lots of extras. Loved walking around the farm & seeing the animals. Cat-Mandoo was a regular visitor!! The only problem was a week was not long enough!

A very welcome break at a much needed time. The cottage has everything you need for a holiday stay. Very clean and extremely fresh. We are not strangers to North Yorkshire and as with previous visits the people are very welcoming and warm. We would stay here again without hesitation and would heartedly recommend this to friends and family.

Wow! The Calf House was perfect for the 4 of us - light airy & spotless! We loved having visits from Bella, Mandoo & the hens!! Beautiful part of the country - so many pretty little towns & villages to visit - Thirsk, Helmsley, Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay to name a few. The James Herriot Museum is worth a visit and eating fish & chips from The White Horse Cafe in Thirsk square. Diggerland was a big hit with our boys (aged 9 & 12) and also The Forbidden Corner. The trye swing near the cottage was also very popular! Walks up at Sutton Bank are definitely worth doing - breath taking views!! Brimham Rocks were spectacular too! Thank you to Joseph for the scrummy eggs - what a treat! Beautiful part of the country - we loved it here! Thank you.

What can you say! What a lovely cottage - spotless and clean, very well equipped. Spent the week visiting Scarborough, Whitby, York, Harrogate, Thirsk (James Herriot Museum very enjoyable) and lots more places. Lucky with the weather until Thursday but still got out for the day. Just had the most wonderful week (wish it had been a fortnight)! Absolutely loved 'The Granary' Talk about the biggest 'wow' when we walked in through the front door - couldn't believe the photographs of the 'before and after' the renovation of the barn. it's so peaceful here with everything you could need - lovely and clean too! Thank you so much to Ed, Victoria, James & family for a WONDERFUL stay at the beautiful Stable Cottage. What a fantastic week we have had and despite the weather not being on our side in the height of summer, we have all thoroughly enjoyed our stay here at Water Hall Farm Cottages! It is in a brilliant location, we have enjoyed visits to Thirsk, Northallerton, Monk Park Farm, York & Scarborough. The cottage is clean, modern, cosy and very homely. We loved our daily visits from Catmandoo, Bella and the chickens. We absolutely loved the fact that we could go and feed the animals and collect the eggs on a morning and the freedom of being able to go and visit all the farm animals anytime we liked! This kept our 9 month old daughter entertained on a morning and evening! The little laundry is also a great idea and means we aren't going home with as much washing as we would have been - bonus! Victoria has gone out of her way to make our stay here enjoyable and even before we arrived, helped out with all of my questions. We have loved every minute and will be returning with others in the future, in one the the bigger cottages!

First time in Yorkshire and I wouldn't have wanted to stay anywhere else. The people are so friendly, nothing is too much trouble, always there to help.

Had a tremendous week. The Stable was perfectly finished for us, and was probably the best holiday cottage we've stayed in in England - really top notch!! We were very lucky with the weather, but whatever the weather, Fountains Abbey and Rievaulx Terrace were well worth the time to visit. But then there were many other places too......... Many thanks to all at the farm for making us very welcome - we'd recommend the cottages to anyone!

This was our second time visiting Water Hall Farm and it was just as wonderful as our first. Thanks to the McDonalds for helping make our fifth wedding anniversary extra special! Highlights included newborn piglets on the day we arrived, hearing Mandoo's story, a beautiful walk around Gormire Lake and a picnic on Sutton Bank. We love this location for exploring Yorkshire and will be back again soon!

Thank you to the McDonalds for this wonderful place. We bring Mum & Dad away for a pampered break and this surpased all the tick boxes. It was lovely and comfortable and so nicely done, well equipped too. The area is full of things to do, we will have to come back to explore more. We all 4 of us were Dairy Farmers and it is lovely to be surrounded by lovely animals. I'm sure you will go from strength to strength, will definitely encourage friends and family to visit. Lovely cottage in a lovely setting run by lovely people! We had many visits to the local pub which has a lovely atmosphere. Lucky for us the Pickering Country Fair was on during our visit and the weather has been glorious. If you are a bird fancier, Bempton Cliffs is well worth the 1 1/2hr drive. One week is not enough, we plan on coming back.

Fab cottage, very clean with everything we needed. Walking in the area is great! Good local pubs - The Forrester's Arms at Kilburn was excellent, beautiful little village. Thank you for making us feel so welcome. We will definitely be back.

Second time around and still a wonderful experience made more magical as we brought our daughter and Grandaughter for the week too. There is always plenty to do through the day and it's a wonderful place to spend the evenings relaxing. Ed & Victoria are always happy to help. Our Grandaughter India loved the animals and spending time with Joseph and Bella. Everything you could ever need is available in the cottage, it always feels like a home from home.

My friend and I arrived on the 27th to a very warm welcome from Victoria and her father, Ed. We've had a great week, been out and about, had lovely meals at the local pub and really chilled out when we returned to the cottage. It's provided everything you would need and has been warm and cosy. Would definitely recommend it to anybody!! Bella has paid us a couple of visits for treats after breakfast. Lovely cottage, good weather, brilliant place to stay! We have visited Hawes (cheese factory), Brymor Ice Cream Parlour, Whitby, Thirsk, Ripon and York (brilliant shopping at Monks Cross). Packed a lot in and had a lovely holiday! We enjoyed the biscuits, milk and all the lovely extra touches - thank you!!

We've had a wonderful stay in this beautiful, cosy, well equipped cottage. The cottage has suited us perfectly with 2 boys aged 2 1/2 and 4 months. Otto loved the animals, especially the dog and cat! We visited Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, Scarborough, York and the National Railway Museum, did a walk around the White Horse at Sutton Bank followed by a smashing lunch at The Sugared Butterfly in Helmsley. It's all been made especially nice by the extra touches like champers and party poppers for NYE! Thank you! We're definitely keen to come again!

We have enjoyed a fabulous week here. We booked the cottage as a quiet retreat so that we could focus on 'work planning' away from the office. It's been very successful and we have got lots done! It's all down to the wonderfully warm welcome that we received from Victoria & Ed which allowed us to settle in quickly. We have enjoyed our time here; from being able to enjoy a lovely long walk every morning to wandering around and seeing the animals around the farm. Bella & Mandoo often escorted us on our walks and we even had a chicken or two visit on occasion. We leave with eggs and a promise to return. Thank you.

Again the time has passed and it is time to leave. Sadly no snow, but, a cosy cottage that we call our home away from home. To the McDonald family we say thank you. Its always a pleasure to see you all and here's to many more Water Hall Farm holidays. We've just got to study the weather to make sure we see the snow next time! Also we will come to the airport a little closer next time to stop the midnight express run to the airport down south. The best breaks are where you feel like you are at home. It was so well equipped, more than anything I have ever stayed in before! It was the little things that made it special, there was a lovely welcome and the little things in the cottage were above and beyond my expectations. I wanted a peaceful place, and The Stable was perfect. I will be staying there again and hopefully take my family with me to enjoy the farm and the surrounding area. The owners of the farm were so lovely, there when you needed them but not intrusive at all. I have had a wonderful holiday at The Stable, and I will be going back.

I suspect you are very aware of how much Sheila & I enjoy our stay, whenever we stay at Water Hall Farm. We love the Calf House. It suits all our requirements for a quiet relaxing holiday. We look forward to seeing both you and your father and it was good to see you again this year. Once again the cottage was immaculate when we arrived and the welcoming goodies are always appreciated (we don't always have these at other places we stay). The area also suits us fine, as we both enjoy the variety of walks there are in the region and of course the wonderful countryside. We have both agreed that we wish to return next year. The question is how many times? I will be in contact with you soon about next year and hopefully sort something out. We hope to be coming back on a regular basis, until we fullfill our dream of moving to the area. A great place! Thirsk & Northallerton are great and we have such fond memories of Whitby. Best food is The Magpie at Whitby - nowhere else comes close! Best man shop has to be Sam Turners (and they do food!). Best Ladies shop is probably Bradleys Jewellers and then Barkers Department Store.

Lovely stay! Great accommodation and a lovely welcome from Ed, James, Joseph & Bethany. We liked seeing the baby alpacas and adorable Jim, the pet lamb. Lots of beautiful walks and the food is marvellous in The Whitestonecliffe Inn! We enjoyed the steam train to Whitby from Pickering. We hope to return again next year. See you for now!

We've had a great week in The Calf House. We enjoyed seeing the animals and stroking the alpacas. Our favourite place was Fountains Abbey. We also enjoyed climbing at Brimham Rocks. We found it very funny when Bella kept trying to come into our cottage! We liked stroking Mandoo because he was very friendly. We also enjoyed collecting the eggs and we thought that Izzy, Jazzy and Hope were very funny when they started racing us to get the food. We have had a lovely stay.

This was our second visit to this fabulous cottage which offers an outstanding level of comfort and luxury. It's conveniently located for day trips to the Moors, Dales, coast and also to York but, nestling under the great escarpment of Sutton Bank, the farmyard setting gives it a rural tranquillity. The presence of a friendly dog and cat, as well as a herd of alpacas with young, add to the appeal.

Lovely clean accommodation. Everything you could possibly need and more! Ideally situated for visiting inland and coastal attractions.

An ideal location for many attractions. Quiet property and very helpful owners, nothing was too much trouble. The laundry room was a bonus and all washing products were included as was free use of the tumble drier.

The property was easy to find and well located close to Thirsk, the National Park and other attractions such as Fountains Abbey & Bolton Castle. The owners were extremely helpful and provided lots of tourist information in the cottage, we also enjoyed chatting to both the owners and the residents of the other cottages. We particularly liked walking up the fields in the evening and feeding the animals (Sheep, horses and alpacas). Our grandsons also enjoyed playing with the farmers cat and dog. We would be more than happy to stay in the cottage again and we have no hesitation in recommending this property.

The Granary was so incredibly comfortable. The couches were perfect for relaxing at the end of the day, the courtyard tables were perfect for an early morning coffee in the sun, or a late afternoon glass of wine with a book. And Victoria was simply wonderful letting our children join in on the morning feeding of the animals. Our kids loved the alpacas, piglets, sheep, chickens and cows. The 8:30am feeding was the highlight of the holiday for the kids! Very convenient location and already recommended to friends and colleagues

Thank you for a wonderful few days in this superb cottage. Absolutely everything you could need or want. We even got to play a small part in the alpaca shearing day (we bagged up some of the fleece). We visited some new places; Castle Howard, and Rievaulx Abbey, and some old friends; Beamish and North Yorkshire Moors Railway. The weather was very kind to us. We will most certainly be back!

This cottage was so pretty and all the animals were very friendly. When we got to see all of the animals we got to feed them and get the chickens eggs. My Mum, Dad, Uncle and my brother said they were really fresh. I liked the cat, Mandoo and the dog Bella. Bella was a friendly and crazy little dog and Mandoo was calm, friendly and fun to play with - and so was Bella!! Mollly the pig was nearly ready to have a baby. We came at a good time. I loved the cottage so much, it was so pretty.

Accommodation very warm, comfortable and relaxing. Very nice to be here on the farm. Met some very nice people on the farm. Seen most of the stock and have been chatting about farm life. We found Mr McDonald, Victoria and James very helpful. We made friends with and are now very fond of Bella, Cat-Mandoo and Molly and the piglets. Being here was accessible to all places in North Yorkshire. The Granary is well equipped with a good laundry room. This was our first visit (on holiday) to Yorkshire and we were impressed with the varied scenery. We had a warm welcome from Victoria who showed us around The Granary and gave us milk and biscuits to have with our tea. Thanks to Joseph for the really tasty eggs.

We have had a really lovely week at the cottage. It has been warm, comfortable and very welcoming after our trips out. Hollie enjoyed seeing all the animals. Thank you for the tea, milk and delicious biscuits. We can recommend the eggs!!

This is our second visit and it's still great and we have very fond memories. We would recommend the fresh eggs and sausages from the farm.
Definitely feeling like a home from home now. See you again next year!

Excellent! Lovely cottage, beautifully decorated and spotless! Thank you for the Easter Eggs! What a lovely thought! Great location. We visited York (Chocolate Story and the Railway Museum), the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Goathland, Stump Cross Caverns, Coldstone Cut, Wensleydale Creamery, Ribblesdale Viaduct, Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay.

Fantastic holiday, thank you for being so welcoming and hospitable. The cottage is lovely, well equipped and immaculate. We loved seeing all the animals, particularly the newborn lambs. Nothing was too much trouble and we've all had a great time here. Thank you.

Our stay was a prize very kindly donated to a charity auction by Ed and family. It must have been 'first prize'!! We have been made to feel so welcome, finding the cottage very thoughtfully designed, extremely well equipped and immaculately prepared for our arrival. How good can it get?

Set in a beautiful village with great driving roads and wonderful countryside views. We particularly liked The Carpenters Arms pub set in a village of Felixkirk about 3 miles away off the beaten track. The property was fabulous, better than it looked online and the owners Ed and James are really good guys.

We have been able to recharge our batteries here in this 'Stable' which is very comfortable, lovely cottage. It is rather fitting at this time of year (week before Christmas) to enjoy time in a Stable and leave with some of Joseph's eggs! Thank you for the warm welcome. We hope to return and enjoy the scenery without the fog. We wish you all a Happy Christmas and New Year.

Thank you for a lovely, cosy holiday home, we couldn't ask for more. We enjoyed being introduced to the animals. We had some great days out with lots of walking. The pets (Bella and Mandoo) were very friendly and there are beautiful views all the time. The area is great! The cottage is very clean and there was also a very friendly welcome.

We've had a brilliant half term break in this wonderful cottage. So well equipped and spotlessly - like new - clean. Perfect base for lots of days out. We visited Staithes, a beautiful fishing village where CBeebies 'Old Jacks Boat' was filmed and we drove along the coastline to Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay. Also went to Flamingo Land (Malton), The National Railway Museum (York) and The North Yorkshire Moors Railway from Pickering to Whitby on a steam train. We would also recommend Cannon Hall Farm, Barnsley (travelled to see friends). So much to see and do we will definitely need to come back!! Thank you to everyone on the farm including Bella dog and Kat-man-doo. We thought the details of Halloween decorations and treats were excellent, not forgetting the basics. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend to friends and family.

The standard of decor and quality of the cottage was fantastic, the location was quiet, but everything we needed was only a few moments away, the owners were very welcoming and helpful.
